Death Note 2: The Last Name (2006)

Shinigami own notebooks called “Death Notes” which are used as killing devices. Whoever’s name they write down in a death note will die within 40 seconds. Shinigami Ryuku accidentally dropped his Death Note in the human world where it’s found by honor high school student Light. With the death note actually having directions in it for its use, Light discovers he now has the power to discreetly kill people, and with this new power he plans to change the world in his ideal world by killing off criminals. Eventually the governments of the countries around the world notice the unusual amounts of deaths of their criminals, and figure out someone is behind them, but they have no way of discovering it themselves. That’s when they hire L, a master detective, to find out who is behind the murders.

Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars (1985)

The Lucky Stars return and quite frankly, I wasn’t sure I missed them. Sammo Hung and pals Stanley Fung, Eric Tsang, and Richard Ng return for more puerile comedy. They’re assigned to protect Rosamund Kwan because some bad guys are out to get her. Naturally, they spend time trying to grope her and sneak peeks at her in wet lingerie. Meanwhile, Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao, and Andy Lau fight people. Somehow the two gangs of stars intersect to take on Richard Norton and Yasuki Kurata. But first there’s some time out for Richard Ng to harass Michelle Yeoh (in a cameo as a judo instructor). Also, there’s an aborted romantic subplot involving Sammo Hung and Sibelle Hu, who’s returning from the first film as Miss Woo.
More or less the same as the first, but this sequel just isn’t as good, mainly because there isn’t enough fighting to make up for all the annoying antics. You don’t need fast-forward for this movie - you need chapter search. That said, the fighting in question is well-choreographed and fun, but wading through everything else to get to it can be trying. A who’s who walk-on of cameos rounds out the movie.

Last Hero In China (1993)

Jet Li stars in this comic spectacle as a Chinese “Robin Hood” who stumbles upon a kidnapping scheme after unwittingly opening a martial arts school next to a brothel!
My introduction to kung fu movies was Jet Li’s “Fong Sai Yuk”, which blew me away, and I’m happy to say that “The Last Hero In China” is every bit as great as the former. Lots of good jokes (incl. bad guys with infectious fits of hysterical laughter), lots of impressive fighting - even if it’s wire-aided -, lots of enjoyable acting, and an uproarious climactic fight scene at the end; rooster vs. centipede!
The story, starring the legendary kung fu doctor, Wong Fei-Hung, is an old-fashioned romp which is perfectly suited to Jet Li’s acting talent and charisma. The rooster costume he dons at the end, and the fighting style he invents, are hilariously entertaining, and he pulls it off with flying colors. This is the sort of thing Jet Li does best.

The Boat That Rocked (2009) DVDRip

The Boat That Rocked" is an ensemble comedy in which the romance takes place between the young people of the '60s and pop music. It's about a band of rogue DJs that captivated Britain, playing the music that defined a generation and standing up to a government that, incomprehensibly, preferred jazz. The Count, a big, brash, American god of the airwaves; Quentin, the boss of Radio Rock -- a pirate radio station in the middle of the North Sea that's populated by an eclectic crew of rock and roll DJs; Gavin, the greatest DJ in Britain who has just returned from his drug tour of America to reclaim his rightful position; Dave, an ironic, intelligent and cruelly funny co-broadcaster; and a fearsome British government official out for blood against the drug takers and lawbreakers of a once-great nation.
